IPSEN grants the King Hussein Cancer Foundation 20,000 euros to purchase a hand held vacuum biopsy system

(Dubai Health & News) An official from Beaufour IPSEN International, Mr. Eric Berthaud, Middle East Export Manager - Transcontinental Operations, visited the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) on January 31, 2007. IPSEN granted the Foundation a generous amount of 20,000 Euros to purchase the "Hand Held Vacuum Assisted Biopsy System" which is an important addition to the "Digital Mammography" machine already available at the King Hussein Cancer Center.

HRH Princess Dina Mired Director General of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation received the grant and thanked IPSEN for their generous contribution. She explained that this complete device will greatly benefit the Breast Cancer and early detection programs at the Center. HRH Princess Dina Mired added: "It is a priority for the Foundation and Center to focus their efforts on promoting early detection of Breast Cancer since it is the leading cancer affecting females in Jordan."

The "Hand Held Vacuum Assisted Biopsy System" is used to perform a breast biopsy that will make an accurate diagnosis of any breast abnormality at its earliest stages without the need for open surgery. This can be performed in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia. The biopsy procedure takes less than an hour, and patients can return to their normal daily activities immediately. Thus, this new machine will allow for sharper images and better pathology with minimal pain, scarring and recovery time.

HRH Princess Dina Mired continued: The fact that this donation of the Hand Held Vacuum Biopsy System is done in an outpatient setting and the procedure takes less than an hour, means that many more women can be screened for early detection of Breast Cancer. This is why this donation is very timely, as it coincides with the launch of the national initiative of the "National Breast Cancer Early Detection Program".

On behalf of IPSEN's Senior Director - Transcontinental Operations; Mr. Eric Berthaud said: "IPSEN's vision is well summarized in our motto "Innovation for patient care". That is to say we, at IPSEN, strive to deliver significant improvements in patients' health and quality of life by providing effective therapeutic solutions to fulfill unmet medical needs. In all fields (research, development, medical, regulatory affairs, marketing, and sales) each IPSEN employee and team participate through their daily work to build this identity and vision through their actions.

During the visit to the Center, HRH Princess Dina Mired accompanied by Dr. Mahmoud Sarhan, Director General of the Center, briefed Mr. Berthaud on the latest achievements at the Center. They also toured a number of facilities including the Khalid Shoman Nuclear Medicine Department, Medical Library, Telesynergy, and the Children's Play Room at the Zaha Mango Pediatric Department.

Also attending the visit was Mr. Badia' Yaish, General Manager of Petra Drug Store, the representative of IPSEN in Jordan. Petra Drug Store is one of the leading distributors of pharmaceuticals and medical devices proudly serving health care professionals since 1962.
