Cardiac institute at Zulekha Hospital to promote
medical tourism in Dubai
(Dubai Health & News) Sharjah-based Zulekha
Hospital has announced that its new Shawl Cardiovascular Institute and
Research Centre (SCIRC), under the leadership of world renowned
Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Fayaz Shawl, will target international
patients seeking access to advanced cardiovascular procedures.
Realizing the vision of Dr. Zulekha Daud, founder of Zulekha Hospital,
to provide healthcare with a holistic approach, SCIRC plans to attract
patients from UK, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Oman,
Canada and other countries. Typically,
these patients would have normally gone for their cardiac treatments to
the US, but after 9/11, the process of entering the US has become a
lengthy process thus causing more international patients to seek
“timely” care in other global markets.
Currently, Dr. Fayaz Shawl is Clinical Professor of Medicine and
Director of Interventional Cardiovascular Medicine at George Washington
University Hospital, Washington, D.C..
He is also the Director of Interventional Cardiology at
Washington Adventist Hospital for over 25 years and the Chairman of the
new Shawl's Cardiovascular Institute and Research Centre at Zulekha
Hospital.
Dr. Shawl is credited to have done more interventional procedures as a
single operator than any other interventional cardiologist in the world.
During the course of career, he has performed a wide range of
Interventional procedures to include opening blocked arteries involving
heart, brain, kidneys, legs, etc., as well as, other procedures like
Automatic Internal Defibrillator (AICD) implantation for patients who
have weak heart muscle or abnormal heart rhythms leading to a sudden
death syndrome and Pediatric Cardiology care for the children who have
heart defects.
In addition, Dr. Shawl brings to SCIRC a team of expert trained
physicians and nurses to deliver world-class cardiovascular care to the
citizens of the UAE and international patients. SCIRC will also provide
educational training and the ongoing sharing of knowledge to the UAE
medical fraternity in order to help establish the region as a center of
interventional expertise.
