Abu Dhabi conference addresses new frontiers in
surgery
(Dubai Health & News) Under the theme 'New Frontiers in
Surgery, The third Annual International Surgical Conference was recently
held at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi and hosted 76 international
guests from USA, Europe, Asia and Africa.
The goal of this year's conference, which concluded on March 4th, was to
educate physicians about the latest advances and developments in
technological instrumentation, techniques, and therapeutic approaches to
surgery.
Dr. Ahmad Al Mazrouei, Chairman and CEO of the Health Authority in Abu
Dhabi inaugurated the conference. In his address to the delegates, he
spoke about upgrading the health system of the Emirate based on the
vision of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan (God bless him) and
greatly supported by the UAE President, HH Sheikh Khalifa and our Crown
Prince, HH Sheikh Mohammed - in order to bring world-class healthcare to
the people of Abu Dhabi.
He added: "Continuous Medical Education plays an essential part in
our strategy and I am truly grateful to all our distinguished speakers
and guests who have come here from more than 20 countries to share their
clinical expertise and insights with our clinicians. Equally, of course,
I would like to express my thanks to the participating surgeons and
physicians from our top hospitals who have gathered data and codified
their procedures and clinical outcomes in order to present and discuss
their approaches at this conference. I am very much hoping that every
participant will be able to take away important new impulses to improve
treatments especially in key areas such as tumor, trauma, cardiac, and
paediatric surgery - and equally, treatments for example for conditions
caused by diabetes or congenital abnormalities, areas where we have
considerable needs here in Abu Dhabi."
The conference and exhibition also attracted the participation of The
Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow) along with 16 other
German and American universities.
Local hospitals such as Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Al Ain Hospital and
Al Mafraq Hospital contributed scientific activities. The contribution
of Al Mafraq Hospital was through virtual reality laparoscopic surgery,
training and workshop transmission at Al Mafraq Hospital operating
theatre and a basic Surgical Training Session also held at the hospital.
In addition, a wide range of surgical topics were presented at the
conference covering such topics as: Neurospinal, Orthopaedic, Trauma,
ENT, Plastic, Paediatric, Transplant and Urological surgeries.
Many doctors, healthcare planners and medical staff not only from Abu
Dhabi but from other emirates in the UAE and GCC countries participated
in the event.
