Dubai to host
charity event to raise funds for the King Hussein Cancer Foundation
(Dubai Health &
News) The King Hussein Cancer Foundation will be the focus of a
major fundraising effort to be held at the Grand Hyatt in Dubai on 21
November 2006. The Gala Dinner will be under the patronage and in the
presence of HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, Wife of HH Sheikh
Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE,
and Ruler of Dubai. More than 300 guests will attend the charity gala
dinner to show their support and contribution to the King Hussein Cancer
Foundation in Jordan.
The King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) is the legal umbrella
organization responsible for the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) of
Amman, Jordan, and the Foundation's medical arm. A Board of Trustees
comprised of a dedicated group of prominent volunteers and chaired by
HRH Princess Ghida Talal runs the Foundation. The Director General of
King Hussein Cancer Foundation is HRH Princess Dina Mired, and Dr.
Mahmoud Sarhan is the Director General of the King Hussein Cancer
Center.
The King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC)
The King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) works to provide state-of-the-art
comprehensive cancer care to the people of Jordan and the region. In
February 2006, the Center became the first hospital in Jordan to be
accredited by the "Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare
Organizations (JCAHO)", and the fourth hospital to be awarded this
certification in the Middle East.
"The success of the Center was a dream of the late King Hussein Bin
Talal who broke all taboos by openly speaking about his cancer and
combating it with courage and determination. He fought his illness in
the same manner as he lived his life - with great faith, courage and
dignity", commented HRH Princess Ghida Talal.
The primary focus of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation is to support
and maintain the life-saving work of the King Hussein Cancer Center, and
to promote awareness and education programs aimed at early detection and
prevention of cancer. The Foundation also dedicates its efforts to
support patients financially, emotionally and spiritually throughout the
lengthy and difficult cancer treatment.
In order to support its mission, the Foundation has established various
fundraising activities and programs to engage and invite the community,
generous donors, individuals and institutions worldwide, in the fight
against cancer. Without this vital support, the Foundation would not be
able to purchase life-saving medical equipment, support any of the
Center's medical programs, or fund treatment costs of underprivileged
patients through the "Goodwill Fund" and "ZAKAT
Fund".
"Cancer is indiscriminate and has no borders. It affects adults and
children, men and women, rich and poor alike. Sadly cancer in one way or
another has touched every single one of us. That is why the Foundation
invites all who wish to take an active role in the fight against cancer
especially in our region", explained HRH Princess Dina Mired.
"We are delighted to have on board sponsors and donors such an
Abraaj capital, Arabtec, Shuaa Capital, Al Hamad Construction, Jordan
Dubai Capital, Dubai International Capital, Habtoor Engineering,
National Paints, CICON, ORION, Jordinvest, Drake & Scull, Arab Bank
and Mr. Abdelraouf Bitar who have shown great interest in supporting the
Foundation. We would like to thank in advance all the artists,
volunteers and all those who are working to make this Charity Gala a
special and successful fundraiser", said HRH Princess Dina Mired.
The Charity Gala Dinner will be held in the Baniyas Ballroom at the
Grand Hyatt Dubai on 21 November 2006.
All donations for the benefit of the King Hussein Cancer Center are
channeled through the King Hussein Cancer Foundation.
