Siemens Medical Solutions reinforces regional
presence
(Dubai Health & News) Siemens Medical solutions will be
demonstrating the very latest in its innovative medical technologies and
solutions for integrated healthcare at Arab Health 2007 in Dubai. In
addition, Siemens will be sharing a vision for the quality of healthcare
worldwide and the importance of information technology (IT) at the
important Leaders in Healthcare conference, held alongside Arab Health.
Earlier last year, Siemens relocated their Near and Middle East (NME)
regional headquarters for sales to the UAE. In addition, the company
established a Centre of Competence specialising in high technology
solutions for the region. The moves came as Siemens reaffirmed its
position as the leading player in the regional medical technology
market.
The two moves add to an already 100-strong team of specialists available
on ground regional customers. "Having our specialists available
right here means shorter lead times to respond to customers and an even
better understanding and awareness of their needs and issues,"
explained Maurice Faber, Director of Siemens Medical Solutions, NME
Headquarters.
"We are uniquely positioned within this market as the only total
solutions provider. We are the only company that can provide fully
integrated end-to-end solutions in this fast evolving and highly
competitive industry."
More importantly, it signifies the growing importance of the Middle East
as a major global market. The region's healthcare market is valued at an
estimated AED173 billion and growing at 16 per cent annually (source:
Gulf Marketing Review healthcare sector analysis, January 2007).
According to Siemens, the market for the medical diagnostics and
solutions part of the healthcare market is estimated to grow annually by
around 5 per cent. Saudi Arabia continues to be the leading market, with
a market size estimated to reach USD578 million by 2010.
Meanwhile, in the Lower Gulf region, Siemens Medical Solutions reported
an impressive growth rate in sales from the previous fiscal, almost
doubling the rate reported last year.
Two of the key drivers to this growth are the fast expanding population
bases in countries like the UAE and Qatar, and the rapid move towards
privatisation and modernisation. "Government healthcare facilities
are being modernised much quicker these days," explains Nart Mamser,
head of Siemens Medical Solutions in the Lower Gulf Region, covering the
UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and Yemen. "Modernisation also
expands the range of services available to the public and expands the
availability of quality healthcare; both of which trigger further
growth."
Siemens has been providing solutions and services to the Middle East
healthcare markets for more than 35 years. It is the leading provider of
healthcare solutions in the region, covering diagnostic technologies and
equipment, infrastructure solutions, and IT applications that streamline
processes to increase efficiency. Uniquely, Siemens also has the ability
to fully integrate all these elements.
This ability means that Siemens can assist healthcare suppliers to
address one of the key challenges currently facing them. Factors such as
aging and population growth have already led to a global surge in the
demand for healthcare products, services and solutions, and they have
also led to rising costs. By 2050, more people in the world will be over
60 years of age than below 14, and the Middle East is no exception to
this.
Using IT and the so-called Smart building technology, Siemens has
created digital patient rooms that integrate monitoring and diagnostics
technology, with wireless communications and room controls (such as
temperature and lighting). The Digital Patient Room will be demonstrated
at Arab Health 2007, along with Hospital Information Systems (HIS) for
medium and large sized hospitals.
In addition to the exhibition, Siemens is a Platinum Sponsor of the
Leaders in Healthcare conference. Klaus Stegemann, member of the
managing board of Siemens Medical Solutions will be speaking on a key
topic at this year's congress: How IT can transform the quality of
healthcare.
"The Arab Health congress has become increasingly critical to
Siemens, so much so that it is now one of the five key trade shows for
Siemens Medical Solutions worldwide," said Mamser. "Our stand
at Arab Health this year is to be our largest yet."
