Joint Commission International to accredit
hospitals operating within Dubai Healthcare City
(Dubai Health & News) Joint Commission International (JCI)
has been appointed by Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) to accredit hospitals
operating within DHCC. This selection demonstrates the commitment by
DHCC to provide safe and quality care. Since 1999, JCI has accredited
more than 100 hospitals in 23 countries throughout the world.
Joint Commission International was selected as the agency to provide
hospital accreditation for DHCC as the result of a competitive bidding
process. The competitive bidding process emphasized the need for
hospitals to continuously improve quality and patient safety by using
state-of-the-art international standards and patient safety goals.
"Joint Commission International is pleased to be selected as the
accreditor for DHCC. By requiring all of its hospitals to achieve
accreditation, DHCC has made a very public commitment to continuously
improving services and processes to provide even better, safer
care," said Karen H. Timmons, CEO, Joint Commission International.
"DHCC is committed to improving the quality of patient care, so
this appointment supports our mission toward health care systems that
promote safety and consistency," said Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashimi,
CEO, DHCC.
When JCI begins surveying the hospitals operating in DHCC, teams of
international health care experts will conduct rigorous on-site
evaluations of hospital compliance with international standards and
patient safety goals. The JCI accreditation process is a comprehensive,
reliable, and objective review, while allowing for cultural adaptations
and needs across different countries. The standards address important
quality and safety issues such as patient involvement in health care
decisions, infection control, staff qualifications, and preventing
errors in treatment.
Joint Commission International (JCI) was established in 1997 as a
division of Joint Commission Resources, Inc. (JCR), a private,
not-for-profit affiliate of The Joint Commission. Through international
accreditation, consultation, publications and education programs, JCI
extends the Joint Commission's mission worldwide by helping to improve
the quality of patient care by assisting international health care
organizations, public health agencies, health ministries and others
evaluate, improve and demonstrate the quality of patient care and
enhance patient safety in more than 60 countries.
In September 2006, JCI opened its Middle East office in Dubai to support
the needs of its Middle East clients.
